Meet Our Student Liaison Officer | Victor Seck

Meet Our Student Liaison Officer, Victor Seck

What is your role at Centre for Evaluation ?

I’m a student liaison officer. Basically, we are ambassadors from the Centre to the student body. We organise and publicise events as well as provide the centre with inputs from the students’ perspectives.

What motivated you to become an SLO?

I wanted to get to know more about the core themes of the Centre. I also wanted to know more about the people who made evaluations a core part of their career and what that kind of path looked like.

Tell us a bit about your current project?

My project is tied to a case-control study on dengue, performed in Singapore where the participants used a location-tracking app to map out locations they visit. The aim is to find out what sorts of areas persons who have had dengue travel to compared with those who have not been infected. Most spatial epidemiology on dengue is tied to home addresses or rarely, work addresses. This study aims to fill in the missing information on other places that may be targeted for vector control such as schools, markets, and construction sites.

What were your childhood aspirations?

I had no idea what I wanted to do as a child. I was really into sport, but being a professional athlete did not appeal to me.

What’s the most enjoyable aspect of working with other SLOs and centre members?

Learning about the real evaluations that take place.

Beyond studies, what are your hobbies and interests?

I like to run and climb. My favourite distance to race so far is the half marathon, and I enjoy bouldering because it really challenges your body to move or perform in ways you originally didn’t think possible.

Where do you envision yourself post-MSc?

I will be continuing my Preventive Medicine Residency in Singapore.

Any words of wisdom or inspiration for your fellow centre members?

It’s a real blessing to be in a position to learn, both from faculty and from fellow students.
