What is your role at CfE?
I serve as one of the Student Liaison Officers (SLO) at CfE, representing the voice of students while promoting and organizing events to engage LSHTM students with the center's activities.

What motivated you to become an SLO?
I was eager to maximize my experience at LSHTM and sought additional involvement beyond academics. Becoming an SLO seemed like an excellent opportunity to engage with the research center and collaborate with fellow students.

Could you describe the work environment at the CfE?
The atmosphere at CfE is welcoming and supportive, with members receptive to new ideas. As an SLO, I attend monthly committee meetings to update members on upcoming events and gather insights into the center's activities.

Where is your hometown?
I hail from Tokyo, Japan, though I spent six years in Hokkaido for my undergraduate studies, enjoying both locales immensely.

What were your childhood aspirations?
As a child, I dreamed of becoming a veterinarian, a dream I'm grateful to have realized.

What’s the most enjoyable aspect of working with other SLOs and center members?
Collaborating with fellow SLOs to plan and execute events is particularly gratifying. While organizing events presents challenges, the teamwork involved in making them successful is immensely rewarding.

Beyond studies, what are your hobbies and interests?
I relish long walks on sunny days and exploring museums and galleries in my free time.

Where do you envision yourself post-MSc?
Post-MSc, I'm open to various opportunities but hope to find a role related to zoonoses control or food security.

Is there a personal mantra or philosophy that guides your life?
I've found solace in the mantra of "trusting myself," which not only aids in decision-making but also fosters a sense of ownership over my choices.

Any words of wisdom or inspiration for your fellow center members?
I'd like to share a favorite quote: "Science is not only a disciple of reason but, also, one of romance and passion." —Stephen Hawking
