I conduct health systems and policy research on infectious disease control. My work focuses on the implementation of vaccination programmes in low- and middle-income and high-income countries. I use a range of evaluation methods to examine factors affecting the delivery of immunisation programmes and conduct operational research to strengthen vaccine uptake and reduce inequalities in immunisation coverage.

Teaching
I am a Programme Director of the MSc in Public Health and the Globalisation and Health module co-organiser. I previously taught on organisational management and leadership.
Research
Since 2014, I have contributed to NIHR Health Protection Research in Immunisation, collaborating closely with UKHSA to improve the effectiveness of the English national immunisation programme. I conducted many studies in sub-Saharan Africa on a range of childhood and adolescent vaccines that focused on decision making for new vaccine introductions, examining the impact of new vaccines and disease eradication policies on local health systems, and the scaling up of new vaccines such as HPV.
Previously my research has also focused on analysing the interface between infectious disease control programmes and national health systems, in relation to HIV/AIDS, TB, malaria, and pandemic preparedness.
I served for over 10 years on the Gavi Independent Review Committee and more recently spent two years with UNICEF’s Immunisation team in New York, advising countries on operational research to support the integration of COVID-19 vaccines into broader health services.
