A recent commentary published in Malaria Journal, developed from a panel discussion held during 2025’s World Malaria Day and organised by the Malaria Centre in collaboration with partner institutions, explores how global malaria research should respond to increasing financial and operational pressures. The authors highlight that, as funding tightens and priorities shift, the research community must focus more strategically on high-impact areas, including improving existing interventions, tackling drug and insecticide resistance, and strengthening implementation in high-burden regions. They stress the importance of coordination and sustained investment, warning that without a more targeted approach, recent progress against malaria could stall or reverse.
