UnMasked: We All Breathe

This World Antibiotic Awareness Week, join us for a powerful documentary screening, 'UnMasked: We All Breathe' and panel discussion about the reality of  multi-drug resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB).  The film follows the journey of three South African doctors who contract the disease at work.

MDR-TB is responsible for 1/3 of all AMR-associated deaths globally. While TB has long been the world’s leading cause of death from an infectious disease, there has been a market failure for TB and current diagnostic tools and treatments are both ineffective and accompanied by harsh side-effects.  The stories of these brave and resilient women provide a vital reminder of the importance of equitably accessible, person-centre care as well as the urgent need to invest in research to develop new diagnostic and treatment tools.

A year on from the first UN High-Level Meeting on TB and given the urgent need to mobilise public investment in MDR-TB research, this film and panel discussion are particularly timely. With the UK home to world-class research and in a unique position to drive global investment and coordination, you will also have a chance to learn about the steps you can take to help end TB by 2030.

The screening will be followed by panel discussion with UK-based academics, moderated by journalist Madlen Davies. You’re all invited to join us,  continuing conversations at the drinks reception in the South Courtyard afterward.

This event is co-organised by the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine’s AMR and TB Centres in conjunction with RESULTS UK, kindly supported by FIND (Foundation for Innovative New Diagnostics).
