Recruit & retain health professionals for underserved communities

How to recruit and retain health professionals for underserved communities: innumerable strategies and yet no solution

Underserved communities, be they rural or urban, exist in many countries. This has been a ‘hot topic’ for a number of years, yet the 'magic bullet' is still missing and health workforce distribution is a major political issue attracting substantial research. While preparing a policy brief to answer the question of “How to recruit and retain health professionals for underserved communities?” we conducted a meta-narrative literature review and identified a wide range of strategies and interventions that achieve varying levels of success.

During the seminar we will present the different approaches, outline the underlying evidence and related outcomes. and discuss further ideas and potential approaches.
