Humanitarian action and climate change

The Health in Humanitarian Crises Centre is organising a panel discussion on humanitarian action and climate change.  Together, experts and audience members will discuss how the humanitarian sector can be better prepare to disasters linked to climate change and how we may need to adapt/change the way we approach disasters response and preparedness. We will start the event with a case study on the Somali region of Ethiopia presented by one of our MSc students and open the discussion.

Professor Virginia Murray 
Consultant in Global Disaster Risk Reduction with Public Health England (PHE). This appointment is to take forward her work as vice-chair of the UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (ISDR) Scientific and Technical Advisory Group on the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030

Caroline Voûte
Health Policy Advisor in the Programmes Units of MSF UK, focusing on the Ebola outbreak in DRC, changing Global architecture and donors, AMR/ABR, Climate Change and vaccine policy.

Ilan Kelman
Reader in Risk, Resilience and Global Health at University College London, England and a Professor II at the University of Agder, Kristiansand, Norway.

Claudio Deola
Senior Humanitarian Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) advisor and Chair of Save the Children International WASH Humanitarian Technical Working Group (HTWG).

Nicolas Watt
Executive director of the Lancet Countdown Tracking Progress on Health and Climate Change and reader at University College London.
