The great debate: innovation, sustainability & equity in cancer care
As policy makers prepare a 10-year plan for cancer, this event brings together researchers, patient advocates, and experts to reflect on how we can ensure that cancer care in England is equitable and sustainable for the NHS.
The great debate: is delivering innovation compatible with sustainable and equitable cancer care?
The current state of cancer care in England is a regular news feature, whether its long waiting times, treatment variation and quality, the disparities for people living in deprived areas or more cancers getting diagnosed earlier. These are issues not just in England but globally. As policy makers and politicians deliver a 10-year plan for cancer in the NHS, and others are updating their National Cancer Control plans how do we ensure the balance between adopting evidence based innovation often at high cost with the principles of equity and sustainability for health systems?
This is a London Global Cancer Week (LGCW) event, co-hosted by the Inequalities in Cancer Outcomes Network (ICON) at LSHTM and the Institute of Cancer Policy (ICP) at King's College London (KCL). The event brings together clinicians, patient advocates, industry, researchers and policy makers to share evidence and opinions on these important questions.
The format will be a 'Question Time' style event, with an invited panel representing different areas of research and lived experience, who will together and in response to audience questions debate these topics and bring together a priority list/summary of key areas.
We invite you to submit questions to the panel in advance by emailing the ICON at LSHTM. If you are happy for your name to be read out with you questions, please include this in your email. Please note that depending on the number and nature of the questions received, we may group together some questions around a theme and/or we may not have time to include all questions.
