Gender-based violence against Brazilian Indigenous women

Join this first event of the Gender Violence & Health Centre webinar series to learn about gender-based violence faced by Indigenous women and girls in Brazil

Gender Violence & Health Centre Webinar Series

Join us to hear from Dr Marcos Signorelli, Associate Professor of Public Health at the Federal University of Parana, in the first of our new Gender Violence & Health Centre (GVHC) Webinar Series.

Dr Signorelli will be sharing findings from his research on Brazilian Indigenous women’s experiences of violence as part of his upcoming book, ‘Violence against Indigenous women: a descriptive overview of Brazil’.

The book presents a detailed analysis of gender-based violence faced by Indigenous women and girls in the country. Based on official data, the book investigates reports of violence, homicides, and suicides, addressing challenges and gaps in public policies. A result of a partnership between the Ministry of Indigenous Peoples, the Ministry of Women, and researchers from the Interdisciplinary Research Group on Territory, Diversity and Health (TeDiS/CNPq) at the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR), the work highlights the importance of intersectionality in confronting violence and strengthening the network of protection for indigenous women.

The GVHC Webinar Series will examine gender-based violence through insights drawn from global and UK-based research. Across the upcoming talks, speakers will share evidence and perspectives that deepen understanding of violence and inform more effective prevention and response approaches.
