It is with great sadness that we share the news that LSHTM alumnus Karen Sparrow (MSc Public Health for Eye Care, 2016) has died after a long battle with ovarian cancer.
She will be remembered fondly by her many colleagues and friends, including staff in the International Centre for Eye Health at LSHTM, and an extensive global network from her time spent working and volunteering to improve eye health around the world.
Karen, an optometrist who was Head of Global Programme Training at Peek, died on 4 January 2022. Fellow alumnus Dr Andrew Bastawrous, CEO and Co-Founder of Peek and Associate Professor in International Eye Health at LSHTM, said “Karen’s courage in the face of adversity, kindness in the midst of pressure and brilliance in improving the lives of others will long live on”.
