Steve Walker is an Associate Professor at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) and Consultant Dermatologist at the Hospital for Tropical Diseases and Department of Dermatology, University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Steve completed his undergraduate studies in Medicine at the University of Bristol in 1991 and gained the Diploma of the Royal College of Physicians in 1994. After working in Bermuda, he returned to the UK to train in dermatology. He worked in Glasgow and London, at the St. John’s Institute of Dermatology, before moving to Manchester. He completed specialist training in dermatology in Manchester in 2005, followed by a PhD in leprosy reactions conducted in Nepal, Bangladesh and Brazil supervised by Professor Diana Lockwood at the LSHTM.
Steve continued to undertake post-doctoral research in leprosy reactions focussing on erythema nodosum leprosum. Steve was a founder member and continues to coordinate the work of the Erythema Nodosum Leprosum International STudy Group – ENLIST
Steve has extensive experience of dermatology in low- and middle-income settings and led the NIHR funded Skin Health Africa Research Programme - SHARP - which continues to produce research outputs on innovative approaches to improving skin health.
Steve is responsible for the Dermatology and Leprosy clinics at the Hospital for Tropical Diseases as well as undertaking general dermatology clinics. At LSHTM he organised the short course in Tropical Dermatology and has contributed to policy documents on scabies.

Steve’s research interests are leprosy reactions, skin Neglected Tropical Diseases, scabies outbreaks in residential care facilities and training methods for dermatology in resource-limited settings.
