Josephine Birungi a medical Doctor and an implementation scientist focused on research among and care for patients with chronic conditions; HIV/AIDS and Non-communicable diseases in Africa. She holds degree in medicine and surgery from Makerere university medical school- Uganda, postgraduate diploma in public health; University of Manchester – United Kingdom, completed training in implementation science at the University of San Francisco, California and has a masters in International Business Administration at ESLSCA Business School Paris – France.
In 2018, she joined MRC/UVRI &LSHTM - Uganda Research Unit as a Senior Research Scientist in the Non-Communicable Diseases theme after having worked with The AIDS Support Organization (TASO)- Uganda for over 15 years. She was was among the first teams to lead the roll out of antiretroviral therapy (ART) program in rural areas in Uganda following the 3 by 5 World Health Organisation (WHO) declaration.
Josephine is the current chair of the research scale-up group of Global Alliance for Chronic Diseases (GACD), a member of Non-communicable Diseases technical working group at the Ministry of Health-Uganda and involved in teaching and supervising students. She has several peer reviewed publications.
