We are saddened by the passing on of Dr Frank Hansford (Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 1956) in Nelspruit on 5 March 2023. He went to Medical School in Cape Town, and worked in Botswana as medical officer 1950 – 1962, 1963 - 1966 as Deputy Director of health. He moved to South Africa as a medical officer in Pietersburg supervising bilharzia and malaria control, then moved to Tzaneen as Director of the National Institute of Tropical Diseases coordinating malaria control from 1974 – 2006, working with WHO research team. He was also a member of the state malaria advisory committee and chairman of the malaria drug subcommittee 1996 – 2006. He retired, was a malaria consultant and enjoyed working on his farm until moving to Nelspruit.
