Educational/ professional background
My educational background is in Biomedical Laboratory Technology, attained from Makerere University Kampala. I also hold a postgraduate diploma certificate in project Monitoring and Evaluation from the Uganda Management Institute. I was previously exposed to clinical laboratory practice and later joined the Population Based HIV Impact Assessment (PHIA) surveys as an associate fellow. My role is to provide laboratory technical advice for the implementation of epidemiological surveys across sub-Saharan Africa and Haiti, alongside key implementing partners.
Research interests or career goals
Developing countries like Uganda which outsource the majority of their research data abroad for analysis. This is due to a shortage of skilled experienced epidemiologists and biostatisticians. I want to expand my knowledge and train as a highly-skilled epidemiologist who understands the laboratory’s role in disease surveillance.
Why I chose LSHTM/my course
LSHTM is my top choice school because of the outstanding research in public health, infectious diseases, epidemiology and bioinformatics which are fields that strongly complement my career interests.
