Educational/professional background

I did my undergrad in Medicine at the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education (ITESM) in Mexico from 2008 to 2015. I did an internship at the Violence and Injury Prevention Unit of the WHO Regional Office for Europe in Denmark in 2013. I trained in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases at the National Institute of Medical Sciences and Nutrition Salvador Zubirán (INCMNSZ) from 2015 to 2021. Before enrolling for this MSc at LSHTM, I worked as a researcher at the HIV Unit of the INCMNSZ’s Infectious Diseases Department.

 Research interests or career goals

I’m interested in implementing and evaluating public health programmes in infectious diseases, particularly HIV.

 Why I chose LSHTM/my programme

As a clinician, I learned how to treat individuals. But, to have a more significant impact on the health of the population I served, I needed to gain a different set of skills. The MSc Public Health was the perfect path to acquire those skills. I chose LSHTM because I admire its alumni and contributions to improving health. But perhaps more importantly, I was interested in interacting with students and staff from diverse backgrounds.
