Educational/professional background

I recently graduated from the University of Cambridge with a degree in Biological Natural Sciences, in which I studied molecular and cellular biology and specialised in Pathology. Alongside this I’ve undertaken a number of internships, mainly in laboratories but also in health policy and patent law.

Research interests or career goals

I have a strong interest in laboratory sciences, health policy and science communication, particularly in the context of emerging and re-emerging viral disease. I’m hoping to use this year at LSHTM to identify a specific area within the field of infectious disease control in which I can pursue these interests further while applying my skills to contribute to the improvement of global health.

Why I chose LSHTM/my programme

Most of my experience to date has been in molecular laboratory research, so this year I wanted to expand my knowledge and gain a wider appreciation of the current challenges and opportunities in infectious disease control. LSHTM appealed to me because of its expertise in infectious disease and public health. I chose the MSc Control of Infectious Diseases because it combines scientific knowledge and laboratory skills with a range of other areas which are new to me such as epidemiology and health economics.
