Educational/professional background

I am a Chevening scholar and medical doctor, graduated with Bachelors in Medicine, Bachelors in Surgery (MBChB) with distinction from the University of Baghdad and served as a clinical doctor at both the public and private sectors of Iraq. I also have seven years of experience working with organisations such as the International Federation of Medical Students Association (IFMSA), TEDxBaghdad, and the United Nations Development Programme in Iraq. As well as volunteering internationally with organisations like Muncie Mission, Second Harvest Food Bank for East Central Indiana, and C4WS Homeless Project. All of these experiences led me to LSHTM and I believe you can find yourself here as well.

Research interests or career goals

I am passionate about utilising medicine, entrepreneurship, and software to seek innovative solutions in public health, with a special focus on eye care in low to middle-income settings.

Why I chose LSHTM/my programme

LSHTM is my dream university! Its heavy focus on research and matter-of-fact emphasis on the practicality of its courses, combined with its renowned reputation, make it unlike any other institution. The MSc Public Health for Eye Care is also the only one in the world with public health modules specifically tailored for eye care. It has exceeded my expectations in the sense it feels like studying general medicine and getting your speciality training at the same time.

Finally, I currently serve as the President of the Student Representative Council, where I work closely with the School to make our experiences as enriching as possible. So please do reach out if you have any enquiries.
