Educational/professional background

Currently studying MSc Public Health at LSHTM, I am a medical student at Baylor College of Medicine in the United States. I graduated from Pomona College in California with a BA in Molecular Biology in 2020.

Research interests or career goals

I grew up personally witnessing the health care inequities among Mexican-American and Latine communities in Houston. These disparities inspired me to pursue a career in medicine, but more research is also needed.  I hope to research non-communicable diseases, specifically diabetes and hypertension, among U.S. Latines to develop essential public health interventions for this underserved population.

Why I chose LSHTM/my programme

I studied abroad at UCL in Fall 2018, which is around the corner from LSHTM. One day, I serendipitously happened upon an LSHTM lecture and was inspired by the vast diversity in the room and the shared mission to improve public health. Ever since then, I hoped to one day return and study public health at this top-ranking institution.
