2023-24 George AC Bassadone OBE Fund

The George AC Bassadone OBE Fund has provided a generous GBP £23,512.56 grant to London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) to support MSc projects undertaken by students from sub-Saharan Africa.

This scholarship funding will provide MSc students with financial assistance for activities relating to their 2023-24 MSc project, including travel and research costs.

Awards will be made for between GBP 500.00 and GBP 3,000.00 each, and will be determined based on individual project needs.

This scholarship is open to Master’s students currently registered on any of the 19 intensive (London-based) MSc programmes of study at LSHTM. Unfortunately, it is not available to students registered on distance-learning programmes.

Eligibility for funding

To be eligible for this funding, applicants must:

  • Be registered on an intensive 2023-24 MSc programme of study.
  • Be registered for full-time study.
  • Be a national of a sub-Saharan country.*

Preference will be given to:

  1. those students who are both nationals of and ordinarily resident in sub-Saharan Africa.*
  2. students whose projects are based in sub-Saharan Africa.*

How to apply

Applicants must submit, in a single email, to the Scholarships team:

  • a completed 2023-24 Current MSc Students’ Scholarships Application Form (.xls). Please complete all four tabs of the excel document (Application Form, Project Outline, Budget, and Timetable):
    • The budget should provide a full list of projected costs for the MSc project, and include justification for the costs. Please highlight which costs are to be covered by the scholarship, as well as show details of how other costs will be covered.

Incomplete applications will not be considered for this funding.

Please note that all applications will only be reviewed and processed after the deadline. All applications that are submitted before the deadline will be considered equally, regardless of submission date.
