Meet Eliud

Tell us a bit about a project that you are currently working on:
My project focuses on the evaluation of the Dual Active Ingredient (Dual A.I) LLINs, have been developed to counteract the resistance and restore LLINs efficacy. The study is being carried out in Tanzania. In this project I aims to 1) assess which of the three Dual A.I LLIN is the most effective for controlling malaria; 2) evaluate personal and community protection provided by the nets; 3) to examine community perception which could impact usage and efficacy; and  4) to examine the relationship between physical durability (holed nets) of the dual A.I. LLIN and malaria prevalence in children. In this project, qualitative and quantitative data will be used be used. Analysis of malaria and anaemia prevalence data (quantitative data) collected in children aged 0.5 -14 years during repeated cross-sectional surveys at 6 months interval. The qualitative data will be collected from Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) and In-depth Interviews (IDIs) at 30- and 36-months post intervention.

What are you up to whilst you are visiting LSHTM?
While in London I will attend on module “Analysing Survey and Population data (ASPD 2468)” for five weeks and have regular face to face meetings with my PhD supervisor.

Is there any where else in the UK that you have or would like to visit whilst you’re here?
I have visited Coventry City and stayed for 3 days, and Hyde Park and Kensington Park. The next stops would be Oxford/Cambridge, Windsor Castle, Essex coast, Tower of London and some more parks and beautiful bridges.

Tell us a bit about where you are from:
I grew up in the rural district of Muleba, north-west Tanzania. It is known for its malaria epidemic record during El-nino back in 1998, though that’s not a problem any more. Muleba climate supports nearly all plants grown in Tanzania. The district borders Lake Victoria, giving it a unique fracture of fishing by local communities.

What three words would you use to describe yourself?
Charming, Faithful, Hot

What did you want to be when you were growing up?
Either “civil engineer” or “pilot” but found myself in research pool.

What’s your favourite book and song?
Books: “What a husband” by Mwangi Ruheni and “The Adoration of Jena Fox” by Marry E Pearson
Songs: “When God made you” by Newsong ft Natalie Grent and “I found love” by BeBe and CeCe Winans

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
The most important and the best degree to graduate in life is “to remain faithful”, but no university provides this.
