In her inaugural lecture, Sinéad M Langan, Professor of Clinical Epidemiology and Dermatologist will reflect on her career dedicated to improving outcomes for people with skin diseases and maximising our learning from routinely collected health data. She will talk about how this combined focus has helped her generate unique insights into preventing and treating disease.

Professor Sinéad Langan is Professor of Clinical Epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) and honorary consultant dermatologist at St John’s Institute of Dermatology, Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, London, mainly seeing patients with moderate-to-severe eczema. She is Associate Director for Health Data Research-UK London and will co-lead the London region from April 2023.

Sinéad trained in Medicine at the Queen's University of Belfast, completed her PhD at Nottingham and gained post-doctoral experience at the University of Pennsylvania, USA, prior to moving to LSHTM.

Sinéad leads a large collaborative international programme of work using electronic medical record and administrative data to provide answers for important research questions related to a range of skin and other inflammatory diseases. She has a particular focus on eczema and other inflammatory diseases and longterm outcomes, recently leading the Lancet Seminar focused on eczema. She is also the co-lead for the Electronic Health Records group at LSHTM.

She co-founded and co-Chairs the REporting of studies Conducted using Observational Routinely collected Data (RECORD) initiative, a global collaboration dedicated to maximising learning from routinely-collected health data.

Sinéad is former Chair of the European Dermatoepidemiology Network Steering committee and has a range of active local, national and international collaborative projects using data from Denmark, Norway, Canada, and the USA. Sinéad has also undertaken ground-breaking public engagement activities designed to highlight patient stories and the lived experience of having eczema.
