Research

My research work is largely based in rural primary healthcare services and resource-constrained settings. My primary focus area is population-based research, embedded within a demographic surveillance area, on Tuberculosis epidemiology; infection prevention and control; transmission; monitoring and evaluation of programmatic data; and quality improvement in diagnosis and linkage to care. I have experience in mixed methods research involving: clinical measurements; facility and community-based specimen collection; medical record review; patient and provider interviews; health economic data; direct spatial and ambient measurement; and geospatial mapping. My work involves being part of multidisciplinary teams that include research assistants, healthcare professionals, social scientists, health economists, data scientists and epidemiologists. The range of my experience includes direct clinical service delivery; health service management; non-profit and academic. I’m involved in advocacy projects and networks related to access to medicines and services, and use my knowledge and experience to advocate for quality improvement in TB services in the rural health context. I have a strong interest in sexual and reproductive, environmental and social justice and how intersectionality and decolonisation can redress the legacies of structural inequality.
