I am a Clinical Research Fellow at the International Centre for Eye Health (ICEH) where I have been working for over ten years in Public Health and Global Ophthalmology. I trained as a medical doctor in Spain and have a clinical background in Ophthalmology. I graduated with an MSc in Community Eye Health from LSHTM in 2009 and I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

I have ten years' experience as Technical Advisor and Director of Programmes for international NGOs. Through this work I have been involved in the design, implementation and management of sustainable eye care programmes in Latin America and Africa, and have written grant proposals and obtained grant funding from Spanish government agencies.

At ICEH I have worked in a range of education and research activities. I was the Programme Director for the MSc in Public Health for Eye Care from 2014-2019, which trainees leaders in prevention of blindness worldwide. I have supervised MSc students in research and mentored them towards peer-reviewed publication. I am currently a Module Organiser and teach in other modules. I also supervise PhD students in global eye health research.

I am the Technical Lead for the Diabetic Retinopathy Network (DR-NET), working with Ministries of Health and eye units in member countries establish deliver integrated diabetic retinopathy programmes in low and middle income countries. I also work closely with the VISION 2020 LINKS Programme and the Retinoblastoma Network (Rb-NET), advising on research network strategies and coordinating and conducting research projects.

My main interests are capacity building for prevention of blindness and implementation and policy research in international eye health, particularly in relation to diabetic retinopathy.

Outside LSHTM I am a founder and director of the Burkina Health Foundation, a charity working in developing sustainable health programmes in Burkina Faso and a Trustee of Light for the World UK.
