LLHM Runner: Roxanne Martino

Roxanne Martino is an MSc Infectious Disease current student. She is one of 15 LSHTM alumni, students and staff running the London Landmarks Half Marathon for LSHTM’s COVID-19 Response Fund. We asked her why she would like to raise money for the Response Fund and how COVID-19 has affected her.
Roxanne Martino

“I decided to run the LLHM to Support the COVID-19 Response Fund and challenge myself as a runner. And as the cherry on top, I get to run around London seeing all the sites like a newcomer I am! I have a been training and have a plan through my Garmin fitness tracker. I would like to raise money for LSHTM’s COVID-19 Response Fund as this helps to support immediate efforts to the global pandemic, as well as increase and promote preparedness for the future.

“COVID-19 has had the biggest impact on my life through education. It meant that I was not able to come to London and study for the first half of my programme. The COVID-19 Response Fund means a safer future to me. The efforts being made are not just to solve the current problems but also to prevent them in the future.

“I want to support my school and the work they are doing by spreading awareness of their efforts. I have been fundraising through my social media platforms and asking friends and family.”
