New TB Centre Theme Areas announced

To better address the challenges of global TB, the TB Centre has implemented new thematic areas: Discovery, Development and Delivery.

The TB Centre has introduced a new structure in the form of three major Themes, each reflecting a different step along the pathway to developing and integrating crucial interventions into health systems to combat TB: Discovery, Development, and Delivery.

The aim of the Themes is two-fold: first, they will provide some structure to help us to market ourselves better externally, for example to potential research partners.  Secondly, we hope that the Themes will help us to build a better internal community within the TB Centre, connecting people who are working in similar areas and providing opportunities for more casual interaction with colleagues.

Discovery: Fundamental understanding of TB biology and host interactions.

Theme Leads: Leopold Tientcheu and Jody Phelan

Topics: Biology and host interactions, Immunology, Microbiology, Pathogen Biology, Vaccine Research, Biomolecular Sciences

Development: Applying biological insights to develop, test, and refine interventions

Theme Leads: Maria Ruperez and Esin Nkereuwem

Topics: Drug/treatment Development, Diagnostics, Clinical Trials, Co-morbidities (HIV-TB, TB-diabetes, etc.), MDR-TB

Delivery: Understanding TB in real-world, settings, informing policy, and  improving health outcomes at scale

Theme Leads: Helen Stagg and Palwasha Khan

Topics: Epidemiology, Health Policy & Systems, Modelling, Social Determinants, Economics
