Seminar

Working Across Disciplines

This is the second in our new series of Department seminars.  Our focus is how we can work across disciplines.  Our first presentation describes a case example in how a social scientist and mathematical modeller worked together across their disciplines.  Our second presentation considers the spatial spreading of obesity as a case for interdisciplinary research.  And our third presentation reflects on the challenges – pragmatic and epistemological – of working across disciplines in an area of public health concern.

Chair: James Hargreaves

Presentation 1
Zaid Chalabi and Elisa Vecchione: “The logic and reason for constructing alternative scenarios: putting science and policy in dialogue over deep uncertainty”

Presentation 2
Daniel Lewis: “On the spatial spreading of obesity: How might we research it?”

Presentation 3
Catherine Dodds: “Epidemiological estimates, mathematical modelling and practical policy: diverse understandings and application of HIV estimates in the UK context.”

Discussant: Mark Petticrew
