Targets to anti-protozoal drug discovery and back again

Protozoan parasites are the causative agents of a wide range of important human and animal diseases. With an initial focus on understanding the roles of lipid biosynthesis and membrane trafficking in host-pathogen interactions, our research led us to an industrially-based drug discovery programme for leishmaniasis. I will describe this path, and the pitfalls that have caused us to reconsider target validation in the kinetoplastid parasites.
