Students, Sectors, & Systems: Exploring Food Safety in Canada

Students, Sectors, and Systems: Exploring Food Safety in Canada through Multiple Lenses

Abstract: Foodborne diseases affect 1 in 8 Canadians each year. In response, public health authorities engage in a variety of prevention activities, ranging from consumer education, to the legislation and enforcement of food safety standards. This talk will present results from several research projects focused on foodborne disease prevention in Canada, from the need for food safety education in youth and young adults, to the tensions (and opportunities for synergy) that exist between institutional mandates for food safety and other food-health areas (e.g., food security).
