Polio Eradication: Endgame Challenges, Lessons & Legacy

Many of the challenges we face in global health are governance not disease challenges. In the rapidly changing global health environment, we need to learn how to build on the experiences gained in different areas of work and to make sure that they feed into the demanding implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). There has been much debate as to the value of vertical vs. horizontal programming in global health, and looking back at significant MDG achievements in health, we now have the opportunity to assess impact and outcomes.

At this meeting, leaders in global health will discuss the challenges of the polio endgame and the multi-faceted legacy of polio eradication.

This event is jointly organized by the Global Health Programme at the Graduate Institute and the Chatham House Centre on Global Health Security, and will take place at the Royal Society in London.
