Peripatetic Epidemiology: A personal perspective

Professor Alfred Sommer is one of the leading figures in global health, and is the former dean of the Bloomberg School of Public Health, Johns Hopkins and an Honorary Fellow at the School.

"Epidemiology" is a powerful tool, effective for addressing a bewildering array of health issues. Professor Sommer has employed various approaches to understanding the spread of cholera, how best to control smallpox (now eradicated), approach major disasters, interrupt transmission of trachoma, identify early glaucoma in need of treatment, and delineate the many health effects of vitamin A deficiency and how best to prevent and treat them. This seminar will provide illustrative examples.
