Newborn Essential Solutions & Technologies (NEST): multi-country complex evaluation

The MacArthur foundation launched a competition for a $100 million grant to fund a single proposal that promised ‘real and measureable progress in solving a critical problem of our time’. The proposal led by Rice University at Houston, Texas entitled “Improving newborn survival in Africa” in which the MARCH Centre at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine is a collaborator, has been one of the eight shortlisted from a total of 1904 applications, and it is the only one made by university partners. The team behind this proposal will present a brief overview followed by a discussion with the audience, particularly welcoming ideas on evaluation.
