Dr. Rajesh Kumar, MD, Professor of Community Medicine, Head of the School of Public Health, & Dean (Academic), Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh 160012, India will deliver this talk entitled "National Health Mission of India: Achievements, Challenges and Opportunities". 

The National Health Mission (NHM) is a flagship program of government of India to provide accessible, affordable, accountable, effective primary health care to all residents of India. National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) was launched in 2005 and National Urban Health Mission (NUHM) was initiated in 2013. The Government of India made a commitment to raise public health expenditure from 0.9% to 2% -3% of GDP. The talk will summarize the objectives including universal access to public services for food and nutrition, sanitation and hygiene, access to integrated comprehensive primary health care, prevention and control of communicable and non-communicable diseases, to address women’s and children’s health needs such as  universal immunization, and to revitalize local health traditions. Progress to date, constraints and new policy shifts required to obtain universal coverage by 2030 will be reviewed.
