Mentoring in the Young Scientist Programme: Information Session
Interested in sharing your passion and knowledge about research with young people? Attend this information session to learn more about being a mentor to students aged 14-18 in the Young Scientist Programme. Current mentors will be there to answer your questions.
What is the Young Scientist Programme? Run three times a year, the Young Scientist Programme is a two week work experience placement for students aged 14-18 from local schools. They work in pairs or groups of three to propose a biomedical research question and hypothesis, devise study methodology, collect and analyse data, and present their findings in an open scientific symposium.
What is the role of the mentor? During the two week placement, the mentor spends an hour each day with their pair or group of three students to provide advice, guidance and feedback on their research project. Examples of mentor support include reviewing their research methodology, providing assistance with Excel or other data analysis packages and watching their practice presentations
Check out past young scientist projects to get a flavour for the varied and interesting topics the students choose to research
