The Lancet: Symposium Launch
Our Future: A Lancet Commission on Adolescent Health and Wellbeing
The Lancet has brought together four of the world’s leading Universities to form “The Lancet Youth” a Lancet Commission on the Health and Wellbeing of Young People: The University of Melbourne, Columbia University, University College London and The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
Adolescents have moved to the centre stage of global health and development following the recent announcement of the Global Strategy for Women’s, Children’s and Adolescents’ Health. On May 10, The Lancet will publish Our Future: A Lancet Commission adolescent Health and Wellbeing, a report that brings together perspectives from public health, economics, political and social science, behavioural science and neuroscience to consider strategies to advance adolescent health and wellbeing.
Our Future presents global profiles of burden of disease, health risks
and the determinants of adolescent health and wellbeing. It reviews the
current knowledge base for action, for engagement and empowerment
of young people around their health, and considers the policy and legal
frameworks for adolescent health and wellbeing.
The symposium will include panel discussions led by Dr. Richard Horton,
Editor-in-Chief. These will consider the report’s recommendations
with a focus on the intersectoral responses needed and the roles of
the international development community in progressing adolescent
health and wellbeing.
