Healthy Cities & Sustainable Living
The world’s population will reach nine billion by 2050. Today 54% of people live in urban areas, but by 2050 66% of us will be living in cities – some of which do not yet exist.
In India, one third of people are urban dwellers, which is predicted to rise to 50% by 2050. In China, the proportion is already 55%, and will reach 75% by 2050.
Population growth and the transition to urban settlements will pose many challenges for our health and environment, including access to food, water, housing and transport, as well as air and noise pollution.
How can we ensure that cities of the future are sustainable and healthy places to live and work? This exhibition highlights some of the challenges
we face, and considers possible solutions.
