GIS: much more than just pretty maps
Spatial methods like mapping and GPS data collection are widely used our research, but in most cases we are a long way off getting the most out of these tools. In this talk I will highlight some methodological developments and research I am currently working on. I will focus on those that are likely to be of interest over the next few years such as: mobile phones, crowd sourcing, how to select random locations, and estimating population size and mobility. I will also highlight how to avoid common mistakes and when you should really come and speak to me before starting your research.
