GFP-expressing Leishmania parasites in the human host

Development of GFP in Leishmania spp. to identify strategies the parasite imposes on the human host

The development of GFP expression in Leishmania parasites for practical applications in studying infection within host cells (in vitro and ex vivo). The use of flow cytometry allowed the monitoring of infection whilst investigating proteomic changes using TMT with LC-MS/MS. This work revealed novel differences at a species level when comparing L. mexicana and L. aethiopica infection in macrophages. The ability to monitor parasite infection and detect molecular changes in host cells will aid in our understanding in the strategies the parasite imposes during infection.
