Dissecting the CD8+ T cell responses to malaria pre-erythrocytic antigens

The pre-erythrocytic stages of malaria are an attractive target for malaria vaccines because killing of the parasite in these stages would ultimately prevent malaria pathogenesis induced by the subsequent blood stage parasites. CD8+ T cells induced by antigens from the pre-erythrocytic stages are known to play a key role in mediating protection from malaria however the antigens that effectively induce this protection are largely unknown.

Here the speaker will present research investigating the types of pre-erythrocytic antigens that induce protective CD8+ T cell responses as well as novel CD8+ T cell epitopes that we have discovered.
