Developing Gene Drives for the Control of Malaria Mosquitoes

Gene drives are genetic elements that are able to strongly bias their inheritance among offspring. Synthetic versions of gene drive have been proposed as a means to rapidly introduce genetic traits into mosquito populations as a novel form of genetic control. I will present how we are building such gene drives for the control of the mosquito, showing proof of principle that such elements can rapidly invade a population and lead to its suppression in the laboratory.
