The Adoption and Discontinuation of Modern Contraception in Ethiopia: Implications for Evolutionary Public Health

Dr Alexandra Alvergne is an Associate Professor of Biocultural Anthropology in the School of Anthropology and Museum Ethnography at the University of Oxford. A human evolutionary ecologist by training, Dr Alvergne has broad interests in biological and cultural evolution, public health and medicine. Her current research aims to investigate how biological and cultural evolutionary processes intersect in shaping phenotypic diversity and change, focusing on　reproductive and health issues.
Dr Alevergne is currently working on a number of projects including an investigation of the magnitude of contraceptive discontinuation and the reasons underlying it using both analyses of the Demographic and Health Surveys and qualitative data. The research focuses on the Ethiopian context in collaboration with Prof E. Gurmu (Addis Ababa University).
