On October 20-21, 2022, CGCC will be co-hosting its 3rd Annual Symposium on Diabetes in Humanitarian Crises with the International Alliance for Diabetes Action and NCD Knowledge Hub in Kraków, Poland, sponsored by The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust. The aim of our annual symposium is to provide a platform for shared learning, exchange, and development of new collaborative initiatives between key agencies involved in diabetes care of people experiencing humanitarian crisis. This year the intention is to have a substantial focus on the Ukraine crisis, particularly the lessons learned about provision and continuity of care for diabetes

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES OF THE 2022 SYMPOSIUM

1. Chart ongoing trends and emerging challenges in service provision for diabetes for people in fragile and conflict affected settings, identifying gaps in the humanitarian response, and defining solutions

2. Continue to build exchange between global health organizations involved in diabetes care in humanitarian crisis, with identification and agreement around new areas of collaborative work

3. Review the experience of diabetes service provision in the crisis in Ukraine, relative to other crises with unmet diabetes care needs, to identify lessons that may apply to other humanitarian crises

4. Give visibility to, and critically appraise, progress made by the four interagency working groups established under the IADA secretariat, since the December 2020 symposium

5. Review and reformulate the IADA workplan for the upcoming 3 years
