Mrs Danae Rodríguez Gatta

Research Student - MPhil/PhD - Epidemiology & Population Health

United Kingdom

I’m currently a PhD student at the International Centre for Evidence in Disability at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. My main research interests are in global health, disability, epidemiology, and health policy and systems research.

My current research focuses on access to healthcare among people with disabilities in Latin America and the Caribbean. My project uses a mixed methods approach by systematically reviewing evidence on access to health in the region, analyzing quantitative data from the national disability survey of Chile, and investigating the inclusion of disability and human rights in Chilean health policy. Finally, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health of Chile and organizations of civil society, I will assess the health system and analyze the overall inclusion of people with disabilities.

I am also a research fellow at the Missing Billion, an initiative that aims to improve access to health for people with disabilities globally, and a member of Núcleo Disca– an interdisciplinary research center on disability and citizenship in Chile.

I have a clinical background as an occupational therapist. I completed my training at Karolinska Institute, Sweden and worked with people with intellectual and psychosocial disabilities. I have a Bachelor of Science in Human Occupation from University of Chile and a Master's in Public Health from Lund University, Sweden.

Before joining LSHTM, I was a research assistant at the School of Public Health at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, working in the MAUCO prospective population-based cohort investigating the natural history of noncommunicable diseases and at the Centre for Ageing and Supportive Environments at Lund University, focusing on ageing, utilization of health, social care services and assistive technologies among people with dementia and their carers across Europe.
