Miss Eunice Njuguna

Research Student - MPhil/PhD - Epidemiology & Population Health

United Kingdom

I hold a BSc in Genomic Sciences and an MSc in Bioinformatics. Previously, I worked on the surveillance of the circulating rotavirus strains and assessed the effectiveness of a rotavirus vaccine among children under the age of 5 years in Kenya. Later during my MSc project, I developed a free web-based bioinformatics tool termed “PreProt” for pre-processing LC-MS/MS data. Currently, I am defining the pneumococcal population structure as well as evaluating the impact of PCV10(GSK) using disease and carriage isolates in the pre and post-PCV10 vaccination era in Kenya. Using the same dataset, I will also be determining the associations of genomic variants with disease and carriage using GWAS.

Research

Passionate researcher with a strong interest in human diseases, bioinformatics, and data science. A proven track record in project management, bioinformatics tool development, pipeline automation in high-performance computing (HPC), database search and retrieval, as well as applying machine learning models to predict biological patterns in data. I look forward to opportunities that will help me showcase and utilize my acquired skills and academic knowledge to provide the solution to human diseases.
