Ms Carol Nanyunja

Research Assistant in Early Child Development and Disability

Carol is a Ugandan researcher, clinician, and Research Assistant at LSHTM with an interest in newborn health and Early Child Development and Disability. She holds a master’s in science in Public Healthand currently pursing PhD at LSHTM.

 

She has led numerous studies; including clinical trials (randomized and cluster randomized) and observational mixed methods. Studies such as ABAaNA EIP feasibility study, Stigma study, Baby BRAiNS study, OMWaNA trial. Carol has performed and trained teams on cranial ultrasound imaging, Electroencephalogram (EEG) and magnetic resonance imaging. She is a certified practitioner in neurodevelopmental assessment including the Bayley Scales of Infant Development, Griffiths Mental Development Scales, and the Hammersmith Infant Neurological Examination.

 

As part of the Baby Ubuntu team, she lead the MEAL and a Master Trainer for the Baby Ubuntu child disability programme. She supports programme implementation across East Africa and collaborates with national and international experts supporting children in Africa to achieve their full developmental potential.

Teaching

Carol is an MSc tutor at the LSHTM with particular focus on the Fundamentals of Epidemiology Module.

Carol is a certified trainer in performing neurodevelopmental assessments particularly for children aged 0-5 years, using various standardised developmental assessment tools such as; Bayley, Griffitths, MDAT, MDAT-IDEC.
