Amit Khanna serves as Chief Operating Officer at the Medical Research Council / Uganda Virus Research Institute & London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine Uganda Research Unit where he leads operations to advance the organisation’s mission: conducting high-quality research that strengthens disease control and improves global health outcomes.

He is very passionate about being instrumental in improving global health through impactful, evidence-based health research, and translation of knowledge into policy and practice.

Amit holds a degree in Commerce and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. He previously spent over a decade as Director of Finance & Operations at The George Institute for Global Health, where he oversaw the Indian operations while navigating through a complex regulatory landscape. His earlier career spans diverse service industries- including auditing, consulting, shipping and logistics, online advertising, and tech-driven solutions- giving him a broad operational lens.

With expertise in leadership, operational management, and strategic oversight, he plays a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient delivery of research programmes, from finance and administration through to broader operational strategy and cross-functional execution.

Taking a holistic approach to operations, Amit fosters organisational cohesion and breaks down silos to enhance performance and collaboration across teams.
