Rachel Kawuma is a Social Scientist with a background in counselling psychology and social sciences, with specialized training in ethnography, anthropology, and research methods. She is based at the MRC/UVRI & LSHTM Uganda Research Unit and has more than fifteen years of experience in public health research mainly using qualitative methods of inquiry focusing on HIV, sexual and reproductive health, drug misuse and community engagement with in multi-disciplinary studies.

Her research interests are in HIV prevention across the life course focusing on understanding the drivers of acceptability for both social and biomedical HIV prevention strategies among high-risk populations and the general community. Her research findings are published in peer reviewed journals as well as shared in other dissemination forum such as conferences and children’s books.
