Miss Kirsty Bone

Press Officer

United Kingdom

I have over seven years’ experience in communications and marketing, with a focus on health, science, public affairs and engagement, and crisis management.

As the Press Officer within the Communications & Engagement department, I help manage external media relations on behalf of LSHTM. This includes assisting with queries and interview requests from journalists, promoting research and initiatives to the press and across our various platforms, monitoring media coverage and narratives, and working with partners.

Prior to joining LSHTM, I managed media relations, public affairs and external communications for a UK police force and became the comms lead for stalking, harassment and domestic abuse investigations.

I have also worked within the press team at Springer Nature, managing institutional partnerships, media queries, and external promotion of research publications across all BMC, Springer and Nature journals.

Research

My educational background is in Medical Science with a specialism in Immunology and I have conducted primary research at the University of Birmingham looking at cell-encapsulated hydrogels for the treatment of ocular injuries in veterans.

I am also an active campaigner for equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) in the workplace and am co-founder of a Disabled Employee Network, aiming to support, connect and advocate for employees with disabilities or impairments, and those who support others. I have been interviewed on my work to improve EDI in the publishing industry by the International Publishers Association and have presented at various events.
