Registering with the Police

Some students may have to register with the Metropolitan Police as one of the conditions of their stay in the UK. 

Nationals from the following countries are required to register with the Police:

Students who arrive at the start of the academic year

To register with the Police, you will need to complete an ‘OVRO Registration Proforma’, which can be downloaded from the ‘Related Publications’ section (on the right hand side) of the Overseas Visitors Records Office (OVRO) website.

Please note that you must complete the Proforma with Adobe Acrobat Reader and not any other PDF viewer or software.  Remember to sign the form after you have printed it. It is very important that your signature remains inside the box, as your application will be rejected if it touches the grey border.

You must bring the completed form to the Registry at Keppel Street by 4pm on Tuesday 10th October 2017 with the following documents:

  • 1 UK passport sized photograph of yourself (Most Post Office branches have facilities for passport photos to be taken. The nearest branch to the School is at Marchmont Street. You can find other branches using the ‘Branch Finder’ function at www.postoffice.co.uk)
  • A photocopy of the personal details page in your passport
  • A photocopy of the entry vignette (sticker) in your passport
  • A photocopy of both sides of your biometric residency permit (BRP)
  • A photocopy of your visa decision letter, this is the letter containing the information about where to collect your BRP

These documents will be checked by School staff and couriered directly to the OVRO.

To complete the process you will then need to visit the OVRO office in person with your biometric residency permit, passport and payment of £34. You will receive an email from the Registry confirming the date and time that you can visit the OVRO.

Students who arrive after the start of the academic year

Complete an OVRO Registration Proforma.

You must bring the completed form to the Overseas Visitors Records Office (see below for directions) within seven days of your arrival in the UK along with the following:

  • 1 UK passport sized photograph of yourself (Most Post Office branches have facilities for passport photos to be taken. The nearest branch to the School is at Marchmont Street. You can find other branches using the ‘Branch Finder’ function at www.postoffice.co.uk). The photo should be attached to the allocated space on the OVRO Registration Proforma with glue.
  • Your passport
  • Your biometric residency permit (BRP)
  • A photocopy of your visa decision letter, this is the letter containing the information about where to collect your BRP
  • Payment of £34

  • From Borough Underground Station: On exiting the station - turn right. OVRO is a 5 minute walk in the direction of Elephant & Castle on the opposite side of the road.
  • From London Bridge Station:15 minute walk in the direction of Elephant & Castle.
  • Buses from London Bridge: 133, 35, 40 & (343 from Tooley Street)

Changes to your circumstances

Once you have registered with the Police you should inform them of any changes in your circumstances such as:

  • Any change of residential address
  • Any other changes, including change of visa and/or institution, change of name, nationality, passport/travel document or marital status. You will also be expected to show appropriate evidence of these changes.
