MSc Public Health – Health Economics streamContact Zipporah Muitheri
I completed a BSc Nursing degree at the University of Nairobi in 2010. I immediately started working as a nurse in a government hospital for 1 year. I then became a nursing tutor and in the last 5 years I have worked with various NGOs, conducting research and implementing various public health programs in Kenya.
Research interests or career goals
I am interested in implementing Maternal and Child Health programs with an aim of lowering related mortality in low- and middle-income countries as well as conducting research in this sector to inform policy. I also hope to do economic evaluations in such programs to inform utilization of resources.
Why I chose LSHTM/my course
I chose LSHTM for a number of reasons: it is an internationally respected public health school; It has students from all over the world which gives me a chance to learn how other health systems operate and network; and LSHTM is in the UK where the health system is much more developed and hence a chance to directly interact with the healthcare professionals and learn skills I can use in Kenya. I was attracted by the MSc Public Health (Health Economics stream) because of the ability to integrate health economics skills which I consider vital in program implementation.
