MSc EpidemiologyContact Richard Kamwezi
I am a medical doctor and clinical researcher from Malawi and I am currently enrolled as a full-time student in the MSc Epidemiology course at LSHTM. Before my studies, I was working as a Research Associate at the Malawi-Liverpool Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Programme (MLW).
Research interests or career goals
My career goal is to contribute to the reduction of the double burden of infectious diseases that continue to be a major cause of morbidity and mortality through the use of novel surveillance techniques and targeted interventions. I am particularly interested in the use of spatial analytics in the surveillance of infectious diseases like malaria, tuberculosis, typhoid and other enteric diseases, HIV and COVID-19.
Why I chose LSHTM/my programme
I chose the MSc Epidemiology at LSHTM as it offered me the opportunity to sharpen my quantitative research and study design skills in addition to providing me with formal training in the epidemiology of infectious diseases and spatial epidemiology. I was also lured by the prospects of interacting with fellow upcoming researchers and seasoned researchers from across the globe in my time at the School.
